Hi all,

I've noted that the Asian Version will be released on same day as the Japan version. My questions are

1) Is it under all cases PS3 games are region free?
2) What is the difference between Asian and Japan version?

thanks.

1) Yes 99.99% of PS3 games are region free, as long as you are using an HD TV set-up it is all good.
The only game to be region locked is Beyonetta from Sega.

2) I not too sure about this one. Sorry.

After completing FFX, even Chuck Norris bowed to Auron's epicness.

It says it is going to be in the Japanese language.

A lot of the time Asian versions are released are for economical reasons. If there wasn't an Asian version, our prices would be that near Japan in the United States.

Instead of being $60, it might be up to $80 or $90 because of importation, currency exchange, and shipping values.

If you were expecting English Subs and Jap voice as most of the Asian area speaks english as a second language over Japanese, you'd most likely be wrong. There have only been few games to get this treatment and one was Star Ocean, another is Demon Souls I believe. This is a very uncommon practice and with the extent of FF XIII I do not see this being a feasible insight. I wish it was that way.

Although this system actually benefits the US importer, usually Asian versions are the exact same as the Japanese version but have a different reading formula as Asia used to be different from Japan. It is beneficial because the prices are usually cheaper for an importer UNLESS the prices are actually ramped up like they are for FF XIII.

In terms of the price, I can't see it been much difference. Based on what I've seen, the Asia Version is like only <US$10 than the Japan version. The US Version, yes, is much cheaper, by about US$25-30. So I can't see the pricing argument come into play.

I know I am on the hopeful side too, but besides the Jap voice + Eng sub, I really prefer original theme song within the game. Nothing against Leona Lewis, just the original sound fits so much better with the story, mood, feel etc. I mean, minimum they could translate the song and sing in English (like FF9 had two version of same song). I agree special treatment, but doesn't FF13 deserve this special treatment Smile

What you mean by "different reading formula"??

The main diff is the price, here in Singapore the US imports go for about $90SGD for a new game while the Asian versions are priced lower at $60-70SGD. EUR versions are also more affordable, falling around the $70 price point.

The manuals will also probably be localized in Mandarin/English but the game itself should be in Japanese, I doubt that SE will release an English version earlier than the NA/EU counterparts.

These are based on the prices of the games that we have purchased during our stay in Singapore. Most are from the local retailers and stores, with a few coming from online stores like Play-Asia. Japanese import usually costs about the same as a US import if I'm not mistaken.
