Wow.... that's a hell of a bump!

Although seeing as it's here: I recommend "Amnesia: The Dark Decent" for all survival horror fans. That is one of the scariest games I have ever played, really top notch. Does the 'immersion' stuff mentioned above really well.

Yes, yes!

I was thinking about mentioning "amnesia", on a note about the pressing of inserting action/combat elements in ALL games.

It seems to me that "Amnesia" is an exception, right? If I remeber correctly there´s simply NO COMBAT in the game. If you see a monster (which is linked to the protagonist´s sanity), run and hide! There´s also management of light and of the before mentioned sanity.

Yes! A good example that not ALL games have succumbed to the devious orientation of the market.
As far as the immersion goes, I haven´t played it. But, as seen in videos and by the rules of gameplay... It seems to do one hell of a good job drawing player´s to the role of the desperate protagonist.

Agreed, the ramp of fear in the survival horror has really gown down hill in recent years. Silent Hill seriously freaks me out to this day, but not even close to the extent of the ones done by the original team. It seems that most of the "scary" games aren't really scary as long as one does not mind gore.

I haven't played Amnesia but I have watched Mangaminx's Let's Play on youtube, and it definitely comes across as being incredibly atmospheric and disturbing. SPOILER And that's before you even discover the truth about Alexander and Daniel torturing all the prisoners o_O

What annoys me is that it seems most of the decent horror games are destined for the Wii. Even the Fatal Frame 2 remake is going to get released there, instead of on the PS3. Whyyyy?

Thinking of you, wherever you are. We pray for our sorrows to end, and hope that our hearts will blend. Now I will step forward to realize this wish. And who knows: Starting a new journey may not be so hard, or maybe it has already begun. There are many worlds, but they share the same sky -- One sky, one destiny.

Men cry not for themselves, but for their comrades.

Dead Space is one of the few series that has brought back actual FEAR in games. Old school RE had the fear and surprise element and lost it over time. I hate RE4 and I actually love RE5 but RE5 is more of a great random adventure type game than an RE game. Yes, we have a virus present and monsters, but the general feel of RE has disappeared (though it was awesome to reunite Chris, Jill and Wesker).

I don't think I could of hated RE5 more really, between archaic controls that didn't even try to improve upon 4's design, to an absolutely terrible plot, to punching the shit out of a boulder...everything about that game made me furious from start to finish.

Dead Space feels like what RE should of become, but failed to over the years. Perhaps that's why it's so well received as a whole.
