I think service plans should be better, last a little longer, and cost less in general. Microsoft doesn't cover the performance of your unit, and they just cover 3 red lights for three years, everything else is 1 year. If they were accountable for their product, and the wellbeing of their customers they would have reduced the margin in their console and put more reliable parts in it.
Spanning anywhere from 3-6 years in length, plans cost 50-90$. Buy the whole unit on a mastercard or visa with the plan and the credit card company will double the length of your service contract. Sweet, now I have twelve years on a PS3 with a contract that gaurentees upgrade replacement. Somebody is getting a free PS4 in the future.
It's hardly a fairtale experiance love! Me and 2 friends have had it and my BF, a courier came to pick it up in both cases from our homes, we had to pack the xbox obviously, once fixed it was hand delivered to our doors, with a months free of xbox live in each box with a working console.
Mine failed almost 2 years ago now and since now problems! And everyone else I know whos consoles have been fixed have no problems with it!
So its hardly a fairytale experiance, its 4 real life experiances. I must add im in the UK so cannot comment how microsoft deal with thier repairs in the US! But here, they bloody awesome!
Also the consumer laws in the UK are very different, any electronic device must lasts up to 6 years from the day of purchase, as long as the device was properly looked after.
So basically if your console fails, and it wasnt accidently or neglect, the laws states they have to fix or repair the consoles, so these little careplans you love so much are a TOTAL waste of money in the UK.
And I do think your living in a fairytale if you think your coverplan means you will get a PS4 if your PS3 breaks when the time comes! If you read the small print it usually states they will repair the console, if this cant be done it will be replaced, if no replacement is available they will give money or a voucher to the same amount of the original purchase, so with inflation it isnt going to be massive.
