Why would i pay more for -
A) The 360 that will be replaced for free in 3 years
B) The PS3 that already cost me £425 the first time and £300 the second

Product Protection Plans are there to take your money anyways, it's like car insurance, life would be better without it.

Can't say much about A but you wouldn't of had to pay that much for B if you just got a protection plan. You would of saved money.

You've misunderstood me, £425 and £300 were the prices of the PS3 only, that's how much they were when i bought them.

Did you get a plan on the first one that broke though? Or did it just break so you had no backup and had to buy a completely new console?

I think what keith is trying to say is microsoft are willing to reconise thier faults, and offer a fix for it, when it comes to hardware its an fix or replaced consoles within a week or two if your 360 breaks down, or if there is a major software problem, it is fixed almost INSTANTLY.

Whereas sony dont, they would rather deny the fault and make thier gamers buy new consoles, one of the reasons I got rid of my PS3 was because it was the one of the first models, the backwards compatable one (though wasnt fully) and it crashed randomly on games ALL THE TIME, the reason sony ditched this version cause it just failed all the time, and when i phoned them up to try to get a new console or fix, they reckoned I as in ME had to prove it was a manufactors fault and not just due to useage, I had the console hardly a year.

The 360 hardware may not be perfect, but least microsoft are willing to fix it.

Until it breaks when you're out of warranty, at which point you're fucked and have to buy a new console anyway. Either way, while I think that it would be great for these companies to step up and throw the people supporting them a bone, I don't seem either Microsoft or Sony putting the effort to do so. Better off spending an extra couple of bucks on a replacement plan, and getting an extra couple years from your console in case it breaks.

Your still not listening.

Microsoft will REPLACE or FIX any broken 360s due to the red ring of death, they have stated a 3 year warranty on this fault, thus meaning ANYONE who has a red ring of death, can send thier consoles off to microsoft, they either fix it or replace it, within like 2 weeks in a few cases ive heard of (and mine! lol), So you dont need a protection plan, also my friends 360 was a first generation and it was over 3 years old and they outright replaced it when it broke, honestly microsofts customer service is awesome, they also give you one month free of XBL as a gesture of good will when you get back your fixed console.

Sony do none of this, after experiancing problems with both consoles, microsoft fixed thier fuck up and kept my business, sony refused and lost it.

Cept the warranty only covers the RROD for three years, anything else after the first year is your problem. So if your console's disc reader gets fucked, or if you encounter any issue that isn't a 'three ring' problem, you'll be tossing out cash regardless. Either way, I still recommend purchasing a product replacement plan since it'll cover anything short of you body slamming the machine.

Microsoft 'fixing their fuckup' would be designing a console that doesn't have a 50% failure rate. Sure, their response is a little better then Sony's, but then again Sony doesn't have shit break as often. The two of them are still just as bad, and from my personal experience with xbox breaking I'd rather go and get a new console on the spot from my local retailer then have to pray that my 360 problem is a red ring. Considering the last two issues I've had with an xbox have been focused completely around the disc tray/reader, I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm glad you had a fairytale experience, I see customers daily that wait over a month just to recieve a refurb (whiiiich is what they send you) to find it dead in the box (really high chance), or dead 6 mo later. I think service plans should be better, last a little longer, and cost less in general. Microsoft doesn't cover the performance of your unit, and they just cover 3 red lights for three years, everything else is 1 year. If they were accountable for their product, and the wellbeing of their customers they would have reduced the margin in their console and put more reliable parts in it.

Spanning anywhere from 3-6 years in length, plans cost 50-90$. Buy the whole unit on a mastercard or visa with the plan and the credit card company will double the length of your service contract. Sweet, now I have twelve years on a PS3 with a contract that gaurentees upgrade replacement. Somebody is getting a free PS4 in the future.
