Well, considering that this isn't competing with the NGP or the 3DS per se, I think the price is somewhat reasonable. Especially when it's compared with other slate or tablet devices that are coming out that cost as much as $799. Plus this comes pre-loaded with PSOne games? I think that's a pretty decent deal. In my opinion, I think Sony's biggest problem is marketing, they need to market the shite out of this in order for it to be somewhat successful.

But even so, I think this and even the other competing brands will still struggle to compete with Apple's iPad (or the rumoured iPad 2).

Might come pre-loaded, but with which games? The good ones, or the bad ones? And Sony it seems is trying to do too much currently. And they're going up against well-establish competitors. I think Sony needs to just step back a bit and rethink what's it doing...

Hmm I think that's a bit of a funny thing to say Sony is first and foremost an electronics entertainment company, one of the biggest in the world in any case; and, it's not like they haven't been around the park either, they are just as established as competing companies like Samsung and LG. Apple is probably the youngest of the lot actually xD

Apple's iPad may be undeniably the most popular tablet product on the market right now, but I think that is because they're the very first company to pioneer a tablet of such high standards. But, I don't think that necessarily means Sony is bound to fail.

Besides, Sony has different departments handling these sort of products. I don't think it's the case where only one team is doing a whole ton like Nomura doing KH3D, Dissidia Duodecim, and FFvsXIII all at one go xD (sorry that's the only example I could come up with at the moment, rofl).

While I'm not sure about this, I don't think this tablet is being developed by SCE. The Xperia Play, while branded as a Playstation product, is developed by the Sony Ericsson team. And while there are definitely crossovers throughout the different departments of Sony, SCE is mainly in charge of the research and production of the actual Playstation home and portable consoles.

You're right about the games though, I personally don't think they'll pre-load it with terrible games but who knows right? xD

Sony is most likely not going to fail at their prospects, but they're getting a tad bit late in the game, putting them at a somewhat disadvantage...though they can use itt as an advantage to learn from other companies' mistakes. I just don't feel that this and their phone will be the big hit they want it to be. I hope the tablet works out well, though. If anything, it'll give the competitors something to think about...as for the phone...Eh...that's going to be a hard sell, I think...

Definitely, I don't think the Xperia Play is going to be such a big hit...the price of it might be its saving grace though. I read that it would be priced at around $400 without a contract, compared to other smart phones that's somewhat decent...I think...then again I don't know much about smart phones

Sony kinda shot themselves in the foot with the Xperia Play when the announced the NGP too.
