While playing through Cloud's Story mode I noticed a treasure chest on a stage that had 1997 gold in it.. Reference to the release of FFVII perhaps?

It seems that this egg is included in each characters Story, Playing through Onion knight's mode and you come across a chest with 1990 Gold in it. Which is the release year of FF III.

I'm going to assume this is the case for every characters story.
