Yes. PSN *was* attacked. We all know about what Anon did, and also the information left by Geohot (I'm not sure that it's still available, but I'm sure that many people already accessed it)... But it's been stated no where that PSN was CURRENTLY under threat from such attacks.

Don't get me wrong... I understand that this is work that *HAD* to be done, and there really is no good time to take down a service that millions of people are relying on. I just don't agree with the urgency of which they've suddenly decided to take. It's been WEEKS since those problems and suddenly now, on this weekend, they've decided to take action? If it were that important, they should've done this back then.

If this has been caused by the Steam integration, which launched last week, then they're obviously plugging the holes in that leaky boat immediately, which is entirely reasonable.

You have to remember also, that by LAW, a company has around 24 hours in which to let it's customers know if their private data (addresses, passwords, credit details, etc) has or may have been compromised. We've had no such email sent to us, so we can be safe in the knowledge that this hasn't happened.

Like I said, I understand that a service such as PSN will need to have maintenance done to it and will be unavailable sometimes. More than anything I'm frustrated with the lack of information. As far as I'm concerned, until they tell us what is going on, they are just being pains in the butt. Tongue And sure PSN is a free service, they don't owe us anything really... However, Plus subscribers ARE chucking money in Sony's pocket. They deserve explanation, IMO.

I called it! Tongue It doesn't surprise me at all that Sony have decided to bolster security and shuffle PSN around a bit. Hopefully we might forgive them when we see some changes.

@Ast - Sony's statement about the "external" issues suggested that there was something that'd gone wrong more recently than the (official) Anonymous attack. Either way, with another pending and Anon's lack of trustworthiness about "not affecting consumers" I can understand the urgency with which Sony are now moving. The fact that they are doing this over the Easter holiday surely does show how important they feel this is - remember, they may not be missing out on subscription fees, but with the PS Store down as well and people being reluctant to buy games they want to play online right now, this will be hurting Sony.

I read somewhere that the PSN Store would've taken on average (ignoring the fact it was a holiday) $12 million in the space of time it's been down.

Seriously no laughing matter. Confused

Good God, if that is true it is no laughing matter at all. Undecided Well Sony have never given me reason not to trust them, and so I'm sure they know what they're doing. They must think it'll be worth it.

@Astharis I wasn't referring to what Geohot or Anon did in the past when I was talking about the PSN being attacked. I was talking about the other attack that happened when the PSN went down 5 days ago.
To my understanding, the PSN was attacked again, as that's what it said on the PSBlog, (to which, Anon said it wasn't them) and that was the catalyst to bring the service down and rebuild it - not just a choice Sony decided to make weeks after.

Who knows, with the lack of information from Sony, maybe people are being misinformed from various places, including myself xD

After completing FFX, even Chuck Norris bowed to Auron's epicness.

As far as I'm aware, there was no attack last Wednesday. Sony took the decision to take PSN down on it's own. I could be wrong, but I have read nothing about there being an actual *attack* other than the "external intrusion" message which we've been told, which honestly, could be anything.
