If there was no money in making apps, developers wouldn't make them. It is true that there is a lot of crap out there but ultimately it is up to the consumer whether or not to buy the crap.

Now lets say you spend 40 pounds on iPhone apps, you could get around 40 games for that much. There has to be some decent ones in there somewhere. Now lets compare that to Silicon Knight's own game, Too Human, which was 40 pounds for one REALLY shit game.

Now hopefully you can see my point, and why Dennis Dyack shouldn't talk about the quality of other games.

^Okay, perhaps he shouldn't talk about the quality of other games. But his point is still valid. The majority of apps on the app store are novelty ones, and get really boring after a very short period of time. Imagine if every app was made as good and successful as Angry Birds. It would be like heaven. But, because apps can be made relatively quickly and cheaply, developers don't put the time and money into making them good, because people will buy them anyway.

I don't think apps have affected the quality of the PSP or the (3)DS whatsoever, so how this guy can say it is having an adverse effect on handhelds in general I'm not entirely sure. There are still loads of people out there who crave 'proper' portable games.
