Not exactly, in the last few rounds FF characters that didn't win were against the protagonist of the KH series or just weak characters in general (Asche) to be able to win.

Oh well Ashe didn't win, but she still got a 156 votes, and to me thatis really good because it shows that people like Ashe. I mean we've seen other characters put up less of a fight than Ashe, and to me she did real well against Drake, and that is what matters.

Better characters? XD That's new. I would argue that only fans know them, especially the less-than-iconic ones. What memorable FF character has there been on an industry level outside of VII's cast?

To further Colin's point... Imagine all the game characters that non-gamers know... I can guarantee none of them are from FF.

However, characters like Mario, Sonic & Batman have already gone out. This CB isn't really to do with who is "better". It's to do with which characters are most popular in our community, that's all.

Mario is no longer popular among hardcore gamers, NSMB Wii is a laughing stock among people who played Donkey Kong Country Returns which completely destroyed NSMB bbbbbbWii in quality. As a side not this is more proof Western Devs >>> Japanese Devs this gen (DKCR made by Retro who is western). I know I would never vote for him, neither would any of my friends.

Sonic stopped being relevant in the 90's, he was cool then as he was a badass platforming character who was like a rebel, we have many of those now. Ratchet is a far better character in fact with far better games. Sonic is truly a relic of the past. I honestly don't know anyone who even considers him iconic anymore.

Batman is mostly popular in movies, dunno why you mentioned him, we might as well have had Darth Vader in the poll (who is the best character ever made by humans mind you) since he was in Force Unleashed titles and Battlefront games.

This gave me an idea, you could do a FF vs MOVIE Characters competition next, this will once and for all put Darth Vader at the top and confirm Sith Dominance over the galaxy!!!!!

Characters =/= Games. There may not have been any good Mario/Sonic games out in forever, but that doesn't really affect the characters. Which is supported by the fact that they were voted in to this CB by the members here on the forums ( http://www.gamingunion.net/forums/thread-4945.html )

I don't know how old you are, Darth, but I'm someone who grew up with Mario & Sonic being the main representation of what video games were, and argue all you want about their current day relevance to what we have now games-wise, nothing can take away from how important they are... And that is something that the majority of "hardcore" gamers recognise.

I agree with Asth, you may argue til the cows come home about the new generation and how it doesn't get the roots of the industry, but it doesn't change the fact that the industry has developed so much thanks to the Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong, etc. video games. That very reason alone makes these characters iconic, and if any gamer denies their relevance to the industry...well that speaks volumes of how "hardcore" they are
