I was bored the other day and decided to start a new batch of manga reading and realized: MAN THERE'S ALOT OF SARAH OUT THERE

is it just the ones i'm reading or are the Japanese seriously fascinated with the name Sarah?

note: sorry, not sure where this would go but since there's not "other" section I'm putting it in entertainment

Hmm...well it's a very common(well was) Western name, so it probably pops intp their heads easily...but the only Sarah's I can think of is one in some random anime I saw once and FFXIII...so maybe it's just what I've been reading.

That's not Sarah, it's SERAH.

You have to remember, to Eastern culture "Sarah" is a pretty exotic name. Smile
Exotic stuff is "cool" (just take a look at the names some western children end up with these days)

Yeah, when I was visiting my Auntie, she said that she came across a girl called Pocahontas. I know its a name in a disney movie, thats fine, but calling your child that is abit far.

@Fang - Its still pronounced very similer, if not exactly the same.

When you say Sarah is exotic, do you mean it's uncommon? Because it was the top name on the girls' names list for a LOT of years in America.

I sort of count Sara, Serah, Sarah, and Sarrah, and as the same name. They're different spelling, exact same pronounciation.

^ Yes. In AMERICA. Not in Japan. That's the point I'm making.
What is common to us isn't common to other cultures.

Thats so true. Sometimes we as Americans find names like Ichigo exotic and different, whereas the Japanese see it as a common name. I can see where Sarah could be seen as an exotic name to the Japanese. All and all, to me, its about how they see the name. Yeah, someof the names of western kids is just plain funny Smile

I love the fact you used 'Ichigo' as an example... ^^

It's hell to be a kid named by a celebrity.

FF only used an alternate spelling because they like to fudge up names like that to look cool and unique. I wish they didn't. It's really odd-looking. I'm used to either Sara or Sarah.

I would say that Ichigo is not the best example-isn't it a rather uncommon name, because of the multiple meanings? If you're looking for male Japanese common names, I'd say probably Takuya or Ken or something that ends with -taro.
