FFVII and FFXIII's stories are nothing alike at all.

Avalanche is a rebel organisation joined to fight a evil organization for a common good...Lightning and co is FORCED to come together as they get branded as l'cie...they are fighting themselves as they have become monsters who's aim is to destroy their homeland....they do not want to be together at all. You missed that "small" difference I guess.

FFXIII had a good story, and its been praised by many critics, you saying its a mess doesn't make it so, nor does it make it a fact everyone feels.

And I'm loling at your similarity comparison....if we wanna do that we can do it between any FF (basically seymour then had the same aim as bart n sephy...to become Sin to end suffering bla bla bla....but on the outside it seems like that, there is much mroe depth within though), or any JRPG if we're going this so simplistically about things.

You sound like those people who say FF7's plot was completely lifted from FF6, there was some kind of plot comparison one guy did on that that became popular on the internet.

@Darthdevidem while i'm not about to go arguing the comparisons between RPGs, we all understand that XIII had it's uniqueness as well as all the other titles, there will obviously be different opinions about the games, but I've found something that makes them ALL THE SAME...It's a never-ending Fantasy Big Grin

If anything received praise from critics, it was the game's mechanics and hardly the story, which got a mixed reception. Some felt it was alright, others felt it had terrible writing, but it was nothing to be amazed by. My thoughts? The writing and narrative was just so messy. It was incredibly disjointed and it hardly made me care for what was going on. Reading it up on FF Wikia was far more engaging.

You can lol all you want. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with using the same plot point over and over again, you can go ahead and say that X and VII are the same and I'll agree with you wholeheartedly. I never said VIII, IX, X and whatnot each had completely new and unique stories to tell. What made them good was the writing and how they were presented. IX's plot was anything but new or unique, in fact it was easily the most cliche, but the writing was so much more engaging than either XII or XIII combined. You're free to disagree if you want, but that's my stand on things.

@colin

We will disagree to agree then.

You have chosen your path, I have chosen mine. Let fate decide where the paths meet or clash!

@Varnis

Each title has its uniqueness in characters n story. On top people love to hate by saying, OMGZ that part is a copy from that game etc.....but looking at it in depth is where the differences arise. (it is so for many superhero films, anime's etc too)

Humans defy their fate though, I will to..

Each Fantasy is a never ending Saga, My Fantasy still lies in its sleep.

I liked FF13 alot. But I thought the storytelling after chapter 9, didn't make alot of sense. Hopefully, they with a new writer for the sequel, we'll get a better story.

Just because its been praised by critics doesn't mean it actually has a good story. XII's story was praised for being 'more political' and 'grown up' but that's just a load of bollocks. They just seemed to be reading the Square Enix press release if you ask me.

Though I think FFXIII-2 is being manufactured to bridge the gap between XIII and Versus which is maybe running a bit longer in development than what they previously thought it would. That and the possibility that Type-0 might not make it to the west means they need to be making some moneys.

There's a difference between having a good story, and having good story execution. And that's the main problem with Final Fantasy XIII, its story delivery really wasn't the best.

I've spoken to numerous people since Final Fantasy XIII came out and when I've asked them to recant the story of Final Fantasy XIII, they really struggle. Most don't even know who all antagonists are, who the fal'Cie and l'Cie are or what the main motivations of Barthy are.

Also, as a slight side note. There's nothing wrong with getting defensive about something, but also appreciate that other people are entitled to their own point of view. I am not necessarily a believer of "old fans" and "new fans", aside from new fans having lower expectations, but ultimately everyone is still a fan and it's up to Square Enix to accomodate for as many of their fans as possible. Yes, there will always be people who aren't happy, but as long as a company pleases the vast majority of their fans, they're fine. With Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy XIII, they didn't do that. If they did, these debates wouldn't even be happening.

I have to agree with Darryl about the story execution. It was pretty dreasdful. I had a hard time what was going on and what were the main motivations for the characters.
