Great, a lot of people complain about the linearity and now look what happened; multiple endings!? I was happy with the linearity, as long as it had great gameplay I was up for it.... Don't get me wrong multiple endings are great, but I don't think it'll work for Final Fantasy. Sad
Well at least the game will have moogles. KUPO! Smile

Thank you. People need to realize every FF is linear and it will remain that way.

How linearity is handled is the key, in FFXIII not handled well in say FF12 handled well.

I don't think that FF is or should be linear.

Of course there will ALWAYS be the main story line that you can steam train right through the entire game with, but there has ALWAYS been tonnes of stuff to delay that process and keep you preoccupied without continuing the plot. FFXIII tends to drop the ball on this aspect somewhat. Mark missions are about it for that game, which is what makes it terribly linear... There aren't even locations to explore really.

I wonder what ever happened to all those optional side-quests, like visiting Wutai, getting your materia back, climbing the pagoda and beating all the challenges, getting Vincent, Chocobo farming and Knights of the Round in VII; Mognet, Chocobo Hot & Cold, Excalibur I AND II, Tetra Master, the auction house in IX; Jecht Spheres, primers, temple and ruin challenges in X; even XII had a lot more sidequests to do than XIII, although I doubt anyone remembers Jovy, Ktjn, the seven airship sisters, the broken medallion, even fishing, all on top of weapon synthesizing/crafting and the marks.

I honestly hope XIII-2 brings all of that back. The inter-dimensional temples seems like a good start. Here's to hoping they expand on it.

I really think that he meant first time because its obviously going to be a better sequel than FFX-2, so first time may mean "success" here. But having already seen teaser trailers of the upcoming game, I doubt it will be much fun tweaking it so that it is made virtually non-linear like Mass Effect.

Problem if I was CEO? Breaking tradition for single heartbreaking / heartwarming endings e.g FFX. But this one can slip since its a direct sequel to a mainstream title. My expectations are still high though! Work hard, Square Enix!
