Quote:Final Fantasy XIII-2 director Motomu Toriyama has teased that players can expect multiple endings from the game, as well as a more open approach to the narrative as opposed to FFXIII's linear, chapter-based system.

So... no more linear gameplay? I don't really know how to response, since I actually liked the linearness for the most part. Speaking of which, why is it that I like every part of the game that the rest of GU hates? Tongue

Anyways, I wouldn't mind having less a linear path, but I really don't want it to be completely open. A whole game like Ch. 11 with Gran Pulse will get boring incredibly fast. We should have at least some linearity, but some openness too. Making FFXIII-2 like Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood or GTA is going to ruin the fun.

EDIT: Wait, it's going to be like Mass Effect? Ugh... please don't make me do that...

haha i think they're just trying to put x-2 behind them
multiple ending huh? well that certainly shows they listened to the linear part of compliants, just hope the endings are good
@ Bexn - not just you mate, I loved the linearity too
makes it more focused on story and character
again let's just hope 13-2 have that going for them
would be HORRIBLE if it turns out like 12 (ok not horrible but not good either)

...This is getting to something I'm not enjoying...I liked the linearity of XIII and how straightforward the game was. Made it simple and quick-paced...*Sigh...*

Well, I just hope that it isn't hard to get the complete canonical ending. I just don't like doing everything. Give me a story, let me complete it, and I'm a happy man. No need for side-missions, item collection, etc.

Dialogue options seem cool. I'd like to see how that works out...

It is the first time that they are having multiple endings via multiple branching paths and dialogue options. FFX-2 had multiple endings but not through an open structure, it still stayed linear. All you had to do was get your completion percentage up to get a certain ending.

I think it's a good step forward and definitely changes up the flavour of the game. I only hope they execute it well.

I liked the linear story, but if they can execute this well it should be a very good game. Then again I wouldnt want my beloved final fantasy series to become like mass effect; I dont want final fantasy to lose what makes its games so great but change is always welcome to a certain extent.

A more open-world environment does sound pretty refreshing and I'll gladly play more for new endings.

If they're saying that there will somehow be multiple endings for the "first time" I can only guess that it isn't going to be dependent on a percentage completed-based ending ala X-2, but rather a decision-based ending. Hopefully they are able to execute grey decision making.
