One of the things that baffle me about Kingdom Hearts is why (if the series is made by the same creators from Final Fantasy) are all the games' storylines intertwined?
Would it be better for each game to have its separate protagonist and story like FF does now?

I like how the stories are intertwined. It provides us with the ability to speculate on what will happen next. Also, the story is allowed to grow larger and larger with more titles. However, I believe if the story would be told through multiple titles, it should have been decidedly so right from the beginning of development. I still maintain that the concept of a "nobody" was completely made up after KH1 had been released. It's quite clear that KH1 wasn't supposed to have a sequel when it was developed.

That logic is a bit off, lol. Just because SE created Final Fantasy to be standalone titles doesn't automatically mean every other IP they create will follow the same structure. That's like saying an artist who paints portraits cannot paint landscapes.

As for the continuity of Kingdom Hearts, the first titles was SE and Disney dipping their toes to test the waters. There was no certainty that the game would be a success so I doubt they had any solid plans or stories for a sequel during the game's development.

I agree. I don't think Square knew that Kingdom Hearts would launch with such success, especially since it was deviating from their normal plans for games. I doubt you could find a more odd combo than Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters, but oddly enough, it works!
