Triple post> I fail drastically.

The demo was rather lame, but that was relatively near to the beginning, and it was only JUST a demo, I mean, things can change HEAPS from then.

xD I loved that Moggle discussion...So funny....XD And I approve of Moggle weapons...

Anyway...that was a great discussion. I have to agree with the discussion on how SE has been going with their FF series...As for the linearity...It doesn't seem that much more open world than XIII.......

You know, this might have become my FF episode for now...

@Colon Not chronologically, have you even played FFIV After years? I was talking about that setup, maybe I gave you the wrong idea, ok I'll give you another example if you don't know what I'm talking about, it's almost a similar setup to Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, where you see the events of the story taking place AT THE SAME TIME, just from a different character's perpective, where one character's actions may have affected the actions of another.

The story arcs within FFXIII didn't always occur in chronological order either, it certainly wasn't the impression I got when I played it. I thought most of the events were happening at the same time or at least crossed over each other. It wasn't to the same extent as Birth by Sleep for sure, but it was still similar in that regard. If anything XIII-2 will probably follow the same setup in my opinion, they've yet to show anything that would say otherwise.

I don't recall ever saying it was in chronological order and as far as I was aware, FFXIII's story arcs weren't. If they were, it just goes to show how badly written it was.

Regardless, doesn't change the fact that XIII jumped all over the place. I won't be surprised if XIII-2 did the same. In fact, it probably will, considering the demo jumped from Noel and Serah on Cocoon to Lightning in another reality. The whole play on rifts in time and space suit the narrative style.

@thefenrir But in BBS you couldn't choose you're course of action, from what we've seen in the FFXIII-2 demo there are options on how to approach a certain obstacle. What i was suggesting was that the story arcs could be affected depending on the actions of the previous arc. Like say when Noel and Serah defeat Atlus, depending on which course of action you choose whether to weaken him or not, It may have an effect on the dimension that Lightning is in (such as battles or different obstacles occurring).

EDIT: @Colon Then what WOULD surprise you in FXIII-2?

I honestly don't think the affect would be that substantial, I'm more inclined to think that there may be only one or two ever so slightly differing paths based on the decisions you make. SE has not shown us that they are willing to work that hard. Case in point is the overworld...they keep saying that it would require too much work to create an overworld while other developers like Bethesda can create an open world that is not only compelling, but has its own bloody ecosystem.

For the example you gave, it may be that a certain scenario will trigger another certain scenario, in terms of narrative at least, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it would affect the gameplay of the other dimension. Until SE shows otherwise, I have no reason to think they'll make such drastic changes to the game's overall structure.

Haha, hard to say. SE has not shown enough and the demo was really too short. If it's anything like Mass Effect in terms of narrative, writing and continuity, then I'll be pleasantly surprised. However, I'm not holding my breath.

It will probably be exactly like FFXIII (its a sequel...) where the characters jump from one to another

I really like the idea that thefenrir said but you know... I dont think S.E. has enough time to do that... I'm pretty sure although S.E. wants to make their games good but for them Business and Economical means are more important. Probably making it that they wont do that. but if they did, that would be quite a game.
