In case you aren't huge Google fans or whatnot, Google has launched a new social network called Google+. Essentially, it looks similar to Facebook, with a cleaner, simpler layout. The main difference is that with Google+ is that you can decide what posts and status updates to share separate social groups with the use of Circles. For example, you want to post a link to friends, but you don't think your family would approve or care much for exploding pigs, you can post that link specifically to your "Friends" Circle, while at the same time, share pictures of your sisters wedding (real life scenario for me) with just your family members, you can send them to your "Family" circle. Google also gives you the freedom to create/adjust/delete circles to your liking.

The main gist:

I don't believe this will kill Facebook, but I have participated in the beta for a while and think it's impressive. Participation at the moment through invitation, and right it seems now you can only invite once per day but bundle several people into that invite as you want.

If you'd like an invite, PM me and I'll try to add you in, or anyone else you know who is on Google+. This could allow people who are friends on GU.net to communicate and share info in a circle as well.

You never know, Facebook killed MySpace. It will at least be an unwelcome competitor for Fb.

It certainly does look like a good site, and as gilburtgtr says Facebook killed MySpace, but it took a while, so maybe in a couple of years time Google+ might kill Facebook.

Sounds like a good idea but I could see fb just stealing the circle idea and giving it another name. Then google+ wouldn't have much more to offer than fb so people wouldn't bother switching to it.

Also, if anybody else has Google+ should probably sound off. That way we don't have only one bloke dealing out the drugs.
