Between 8, 9, and 13 which one should I play next?

13 is best outta the 3
but if you're goanna play all 3
then play it chronologically
not cause story are connected
but cause then you won't be disappointed by older graphics

IX, and here's my argument as to why: 1) it had the better, more focused story of the three; 2) gameplay wasn't as tedious as VIII's junctioning system or as painfully automatic as XIII's, 3) unlike XIII, IX or VIII is generally more accepted game among the fanbase; 4) it's probably cheaper to get both VIII and IX on the PSN than XIII, if you own a PS3 already.

So take that advice for what it's worth.

Depends on which FF's you've played previously.

If you've only played ONE FF before, I'd say go with FFIX, because it stills pretty loyally to the structure.

If you've played more, then go with FFVIII because you might find it refreshingly (or frustratingly) different.

Just forget about FFXIII altogether until you feel like you have to play it in order to complete the set.

Hm, I have completed 6, 7, and 10. I actually already have 8 and 9 on PSN and I would have to buy 13. Truth is, I made it about 5 hours into all these games I liked them all except 13 was a little disappointing but I'm hearing it gets better the farther you get in?

Only for a little while and then its back to being the exact same as the previous 25/30 hours.

8 gets dull after a while

I have to agree with North here.

8 was amazing opening, and unique layout of it's story. However it's kind of hampered by a very oddball leveling system. It basically rides on how many spells you draw from enemies. Which make the whole spell casting aspect borked because you never want to cast spells. Despite that, the game flow is very well done and the characters are pretty likable.

9 has got me scratching my head. It seems so beautifully executed for a PS1 title, but it just doesn't seem to capture me no matter how many times I try to play through it. It just keeps boring me. None of the characters are likable or engaging (except ViVi, he's awesome though dies a lot). Overall it also just seems to play slow.

13 Has an insanely interesting world they created, they just didn't tell it well. Though I didn't have a problem getting the gist of it even without going into the logs. The combat is fun and gameplay is quick. Visually amazing but very linear pathing. I got my moneys worth no matter how I cut the cake. I just wish it had a new game plus.. it just needs it to relive the areas you can't revisit...
