My first Tales experience with a Tales game was when I bought Tales of Legendia after I saw it advertised at gamestop so I pre-ordered it. I think what drew me to the series was how it looks and feels very much like an anime, and I like that about the games.

Hmmmmm... My first Tales experience was when my best bud bought me Tales of Symphonia last year on my b-day and I played it. I only got to play like 4 hours (my friend bought a copy which the first disc was totally cracked and screwed Sad ) However, I still had fun as the story was engaging and intriguing and the battle system was very new and appealing to me.

My friend introduced me to the series via Symphonia 4 years ago. Then it branched to Phantasia and Abyss. Vesperia and Legendia soon followed. I can't say that I enjoy any other series as much as this one. I can't aim with 1st person shooters, but turn-based stuff was getting old, too. This was just what the doctor ordered!

I guess of the people who have replied so far, I'm the "old" one. My first experience with Tales was Phantasia for Super Famicom. It was pretty "different" and technologically impressive back in its day, but to be honest, the Tales game that actually drew me into the series as a fan was Abyss.

That would be DeJap's translation of Tales of Phantasia for me, on an emulator. I'm not sure about the year anymore though.

My first Tales experience was Tales of Destiny on PSX. My boyfriend got it when I was in high school, and we played it together start to finish.

Now, here's the plot twist: I hated it.

The translation was so goofy and clumsy, the characters were so cliched and awkward. The only character I really liked was Leon *****SPOILERS***** and he dies halfway through ******END SPOILERS***** The battle system was unique, but clunky, and the story kept losing focus and going in weird directions that conflicted with the established flow. I finished the game dissatisified and lacking any real positive feelings for the series.

Fastforward to 2004, where I keep hearing from all my video game buddies that Tales of Symphonia is pretty much gaming gold. I initially dismissed it as being "not for me." After all, I didn't like the PSX ToD at all. But these friends got pretty damn insistent in their demands that I check it out, until one actually went so far as to buy the damn game for me and I concluded that I should probably bite the bullet and give it a shot.

And damn, ten minutes in and I was hooked.

I opened my mind after being totally blown away by ToS, and now I love the whole series! Even ToD, though I still find the old battle interface incredibly awkward to control, and still despise that old silly translation that made everyone seem a little bit loony. I enjoy the 3D games better, just because I find the battle system goes from an evil to be tolerated to a rampaging barrell of particularly excited monkeys. And my favourite in the series so far that I've played is TotA, which is an overly popular response, but whatever, I just love the characters and it has the best VG ending of all time barring FFX (before the sequel lamed it up.) But yes!

The moral of this story is to not let yourself be forever poisoned by a negative first impression, because MY first Tales experience was totally not to my liking, and if I hadn't given in and put ToS into my GCN back in the day, I wouldn't have had any of the joys that have come since Big Grin

My first one was Tales of the Abyss, my friend show that game... and of course I found it interesting for the battle system, the history, etc. Ever since I became a great fan of the series. The thing is that I really, really, really HATE the VAs(for english) because any of them give you the "force?" (I dont know how to describe it) like a japanese seiyuu, for that I started to import every very Tales of Series... in japanese Smile
