We did it, we done did it. Thanks to over 70,000-strong Stop Online Spying campaign supporters, the government pulled the invasive online spying bills from its horrible crime package.

The Bill maybe over but the Government will think of other ways to get this Internet spying idea into the Canadian law.

I would like to thanks anyone who supported this campaign or this thread in general. It seems that the spying internet law is gone now, which would of cost the government and its people tons of money.

Edit: If a moderator is reading this please close the thread since this topic is now over with.

PARADOX.

Honestly, the question of internet freedom is never over with, so I'll be leaving this open. Besides, who knows, someone else might fancy weighing in on the topic still. :o

Hey I just meant the Internet bill in general. If someone wants to talk about internet spying by there government in this thread, then they can post it in this thread if they want.

They don't even have to be from Canada, i can edit the title if someone wants to use this thread for there own topic that involves internet spying.

Just let the discussion roll on as it is. I'm glad you guys have been successful in thwarting them so far, I hope we in the UK have the same outcome in the end. We're far from it at the moment.

A hollow victory considering if the government ever wants your stuff they'll just take it anyway. Still, if it keeps people happy to think that their rights are still intact I guess it doesn't really hurt.

In a sense, your cynicism rings true. However, this is more a point of principle and it may make governments think twice before threatening to carry through with such invasive actions. It does make it harder for the Canadian government to "just take your stuff" as well - the ease with which the system could have been used/abused was one its worst aspects IMO.

In America, ever since 9/11 we've been under a 'homie don't play that' Freedom Act that has put a bug in every phone and a supercomputer monitoring every e-mail. I haven't had anyone kick a door down on me yet.

"it ain't eavesdropping' -heh- It's freedom listening" -G.W.Bush

That was me being silly...

I don't like the fact I'm possibly under surveillance. However, I'm interested to know the results: Does it work.. do they catch the pedophiles, the mass murderers, & the scam artists.
If the answer is yes, I say the intrusive measures taken by the authorities are something I can live with, and really.. I don't think I have a choice at this time.

"Those who are willing to give up a little bit of freedom for a little bit of safety deserve neither" ~ Benjamin Franklin

Here in the United States, we have a little something called the 4th amendment, which grants you protection of papers and person. It prevents from unreasonable search and seizure. To tap into every person's communications is an unreasonable method of searching, and thus violates our 4th amendment rights.

Yay for the bill of rights... First, I don't disagree with the founding fathers on principle, but they couldn't predict what the world would be like now in the 21st century.

The 2nd amendment was put into place to give people the right to revolt if their government wasn't working out in their best interests. Basically enabled militias. I couldn't imagine a person, or a militia going up against the US government in this day and age, with the power of the US Military. It's dawing to me that the 2nd amendment isn't applicable today, and that's coming from a Texan. Not saying I don't like the 4th ammendment.. but.. yikes... how can I put this..

I'd rather stand in a Airport having my junk scanned for the TSA -- then allow a murder's plot to go through uncontested... We don't have any other means.. Who else can stop these people?
