The segment got delayed due to some unforseen scheduling issues on my end but we're restarting the segment this week with a pertinent question tied to news that broke earlier this week: Tales of the Abyss's North American and European release dates for the Nintendo 3DS.

4 months difference is a little stupid IMO. I mentioned this in another thread, and someone responded with a valid arguement on the point as to it being released in a time period to optimize sells.

Why wouldn't a early december release date make since for both Europe and US? Christmas is the time where most people save their money to buy each other presents, and if anyone is like me, if they find they have extra money on hand at the end of it, they go on a spending spree.

I guess it could be for tax purposes. When people get their taxes back in the beginning of the year that would normally cover buying a game or two. I can see how this may be the best way. Problem is, I already have the ps2 version and i DONT have a 3DS. I can't justify buying a new console for a game i have with better graphics and maybe a little extra content. The original Abyss exceeded expectations on my part and i'm happy with that. Bring on Graces brother.

I've been waiting for this release since it was announced so it is quite frustrating to know that Europe will have it first, especially since I had my heart set on a 2011 release. I work at GameStop and honestly, I get maybe one person in every week looking for a 3DS game. (Usually Ocarina of Time.) I haven't sold any of the 3DS systems in about two months. I'd assumed it was my location but I found out last night that most of the stores in the area aren't having much luck selling the 3DS either.

There are a LOT of games coming out this winter for the U.S. and I don't think enough people have ToA3D at the top of their Christmas lists to yield an earlier release... Not to mention a lot of Tales fans are complaining because they want ToGf or ToX rather than a port of a game they played six years ago. I will admit that recently I've gotten a LOT more excited for ToGf but there's a special place in my heart for Abyss.

In the end, I think it just comes down to the fact that the Tales fanbase isn't strong enough here. The reason I signed up for this forum was because I don't know anyone who loves the Tales series as much as I do.

I feel I got a little off-topic here, so I'll answer the initial Burning Question:

I don't agree or disagree with their decision to release ToA3D four months later in North America. I will just take the Tales games as they come and hope that in the future, the series will receive the recognition and appreciation it deserves.

At the most it only gives Europeans time to catch up to the Americans as far as TotA is concerned.

But three months to do what... remove every language from the game except English? Seems more of a move so that it doesn't get lost between Super Mario 3D Land and Mariokart 7.

At the end of it all, gamers play what we play not for "game over," but rather for what we take away.

I don't get why they can't release it in both places. It's definitely not because it's not finished yet, so it must be financial reasons/marketing strategy. Maybe there are too many new 3ds games this holiday season, many of them Nintendo, so they don't think it will sell that well? But in that case, how is Europe different than America?

It is understandable that us Europeans get the game earlier cause we never got the chance to play the PS2 version. But I do admit that 3 months is too big of a gap.

Feburary 14, 2011. Does that mean we got the game already Tongue

It reallly does not concern me since I'm a PS guy, but I think the four month delay would be a great time to round up the voice actors for the skits. But ofcourse, that is not going to happen.

It's not fair that NA has to wait until February for this game. Ughh.

Funny thing, ToA3D and a couple other games were driving me to buy a 3DS back a few months ago. With it's delay and some others, I dropped my want for a 3DS. Now that I have been gifted a 3DS, I'm soooo wanting this game like right now.

It does bite that there's such a gap. However, in a marketing since, this is technically a good thing. More time means more 3DS population means more sales means more future Tales localizations.

Of course that doesn't help me with the waiting anymore than it did before Sad I never got a chance to play the PS2 version..

Soon!! within 24 hours I will finally have this game in my hands!! No longer will I cringe when I see Darryl's "Recently Collected" list that houses it already! Muhahaha...

Gah it's been forever.

Ouch, sorry to hear that >_< Seems to be a growing trend as far as I've heard.
