Anyway, why wouldn't FFXIV be relevant in 2013? XI is still relevant today. It's an MMO and so long as SE have secured long-term plans, it's going to be around for quite a while.

Isn't XI only around today because it has a dedicated fanbase? I haven't heard of a single person start playing it since... oh wait... I haven't heard of someone starting it.

I find that the older a game gets, the fewer noobs there are around. Every single person in WoW is around level 70 out of 85. In runescape, 1-2 years ago, the average level was about 80 ish out of a max of 138. Now it's 110. Keep in mind, that's the average, so it accounts for all players, not just the ones who are active. If we're speaking in active players, it could be considerably higher.

From what I've seen, an mmo has a strong life simply because it's a subscription service. And, as Asth has said, I can't imagine someone wanting to play an MMO on a console.

Not hearing of something doesn't mean it's not happening. XI is still going strong, at least well enough for SE to schedule more content to be released this year.

As for a console MMO, I agree, I can't imagine why someone would want to play an MMO on a console either (although practically, you'd need a beast of a machine to run FFXIV, making the PS3 the much more affordable option), but there are clearly many that do. You don't really need to look that far to see people saying they're waiting for the PS3 version.

I'm aware that there are people still signing up, but I meant that there aren't enough to actually acknowledge that it happens.

And, scheduling content might mean that they're just trying to retain the subscribers they have.

As for your point about the ps3 being a cheaper alternative, I think that powerful PC you're referring to that is necessary to play XIV might be a common item for an MMO fan by 2013. That is of course if Moore's law is to be believed.

Sure it will, but don't forget that even now it's a fairly common thing for MMO fans to have a powerful enough computer already.

Those waiting for the PS3 version don't care about this, they just want it on PS3, otherwise they would've already bought it for PC. So if I'm to take their word for it, then even in 2013 there will be a market for XIV.
