Another week is upon us and MiniGUP is the cure for whatever has you down! This week they keep it simple and easy with Lauren and Darryl sitting down as a duo to discuss the latest and greatest in the gaming industry. They start things of with a few community responses from last episode including thoughts on Man Week and whether or not there are too many FPS’ on the market today. Afterwards, they proceed to their main topic which is the announcement of GTA 5 and begin to speculate what it may be like based on what we’ve seen from the franchise up to this point. They don’t waste much time because before you know it, their off to answer your questions which deals with thoughts on a new company creating a brand new console and what are the gang’s policy when it comes to replaying a game. The dynamic duo doesn’t disappoint so don’t delay downloading (yay for alliteration!). MiniGUP is part of the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts Union podcast channel on Gaming Union/iTunes and releases an episode of MiniGUP every three weeks.

After my exams are over, I am gonna start playing the classic GTA games again. III was amazing back in the day (can't believe it has been ten years already), vice city is probably my favorite, and all the content in San Andreas was epic. Especially the skydiving. Tongue

The only incentive i would have to replay games nowadays is the trophies that get added to my account. The show was also great, despite the fact that colin and chloe werent on it.

If you are going to add me, just say you're from Gamingunion Smile

I managed to pick up III and Vice City second hand for about $4 not that long ago. Looking forward to jumping back into them soon. Really digging all the love for Vice City in the podcast too. The soundtrack alone would have to make it my favourite.

I LOVED the VC soundtrack. But the station that did it for me wasn't in VC, but in III, with Rise FM. The music on that station was just amazing. Uplifting and hard trance FTW!

I totally agree with Darryl about replaying games--especially RPG's--I play it for the story, and if I have time and I like the game enough, I go on the side-quests.

However, I'm totally with Lauren on her comment on "replayability" with Sega games, even though to some people, they may find it random that she say one gaming publisher has good replay value, but I know where she's coming from ;] . My CHILDHOOD was based upon playing Sonic the Hedgehog over and over and OVER again with my brothers and sisters. GREAT multi-player and single player action! Also, I loved playing the Ecco games over again as well. And LOL @ Lauren and her friend only making it to Chemical Plant Zone XD That's cute.

I also agree with Lauren--the Crash Bandicoot and Gex games are AWESOME!! :3 Crash Bash and Crash Team Racing provided so much awesome multi-player action! I also played Road Rash 3D on the PS1 sometimes too Tongue

As for GTA, I just got Vice City and San Andreas, but have yet to play either--I've been going on this old-school rampage recently and am trying to try out all the great "gems" of the PS1 and PS2 that I never had a chance to play--have any more PS1/PS2 recommendations??

Darryl's right about the longetivity of games--Sonic and Mario will live on forever...but all these war games and FPS games dont' have that same lasting appeal and need to release games more often to keep the hype for them going. A long delay of no release is detrimental and will make people lose interest...Unless it's Sonic or Mario! ha ha

I've been listening to your guys' FF and rarely your Gaming Union podcasts for like 2+ years. ha ha You guys are cool and nice to listen to! :] Your personalities are also quite diverse--makes things fun ha ha

So if I'm understanding correctly, you think that companies like Bungie, Activision, etc should be producing MORE shooters at a faster rate to be more memorable and to make them classics Smile?

Honestly though, I don't believe that becoming a classic depends on how often something releases but rather how unique it is to the industry at the time it's produced. Mass producing the same type of game (for instance, the FPS) dilutes the industry rather than setting any one game apart, thereby inhibiting it to be a classic. For instance, the original Halo is a classic, not Halo ODST.

I mean, you look at the vintage games like Mario on the NES. Each game is considered it's own entity. Yes, the platforming mechanics where similar, but each game had it's own unique identity from Mario 1 all the way to Mario 3. Can we honestly say the same for CoD, Halo, or other similar titles?
