I never understood why people cared so much about backwards compatibility. What's stopping you from playing your ps3 games on your ps3? Who says that just because you'd have a ps4 that you couldn't play on your ps3?

And, again, just because there is no need doesn't mean there is no reason.

People like backward compatibility because their previous console will get old, outdated and faulty and would rather fix that by buying the next console so they can keep their collection and add more instead of having 3 or 4 consoles laying around the house to play their old games.

And to add to what Axeken said, what if the person is just getting into gaming and has only enough cash for one console, but wants games from different consoles that are still compatible with the console they want? A console with backwards compatibility is really a good buy here...

Wow, that's the first time I've actually gotten a logical response to that question. You have gained a lot of respect from me.

Anyway, I still find it weird that people would or wouldn't justify buying a new console solely based on backwards compatibility. There's really not much of a reason to buy the next console when the only thing they seem to care about is the console they already own.

@ kid. True, but in most circumstances, the people who care about backwards compatibility already own the console in question.

Because it makes my entertainment stand look like a yard sale when I have me entire life worth of hardware collection pilled on-top of each other. Solution: store it. Oh but wait, I want to use that. Dig it out, pile it up.
