Well I don't know how to say this but my laptop's network adaptor malfunctioned. On one Thursday afternoon I tried to connect to the internet through my laptop; I found out my laptop was unable to connect to the internet while my Ipod touch and my PS3 could. I reset my router like 5 times already, so I guess I won't be going on GamingUnion that often as I usually do. Do not worry though(if you care) I will comment on my Ipod touch and chat in the GU Chat on my PS3(Which isn't that great if you’re wondering).

I'm not trying to make anyone pity me for the situation I am currently in. I have been looking for a good excuse to get a brand spanking new laptop (It’s perfect*while rubbing my hands and laughing evilly*). I want to ask if anyone has a recommendation on a new laptop I should buy(It can be a brand or an actual laptop itself).

First I got some rules before you type away.

1.It has to be a PC(I'm a PC guy so you can't change that plus I don't have the money for a Mac)
2. It has to be a laptop(I go a lot places and the mobileness of a laptop is convenient)
3. Price range I would say is $700-1700
4. There is no such thing as a bad recommendation, I will consider any recommendation.
5.I never got into playing games on the PC so maybe a graphics card that will be able to play those great looking games would be nice.

I highly suggest a Toshiba. They are usually great quality laptops, and looking at best buy, they seem to be within your range.

MSI is the way to go if you want a gaming laptop at a decent price. If you compare it to Alienware, built exactly the same, MSI is half the price. Plus, with Alienware now being owned by Dell, quality has gone down, and price has gone up.

I have considered purchasing the model up from this one, which is $1750. This model, however, I think you will find sufficient.

May also help what you plan to do with your laptop in question. If you want something that's more daily needs stuff (homework, internet, word processors) then HP isn't too bad. The past two laptops I've worked on were Dell's, and each time was a pain in the ass.

Indeed. Which makes me fear for anyone who buys Alienware these days. And I heard those guys used to have the best costumer service before they got bought out.

I would say that most reputable PC makers are much of a muchness to be honest. Just look around and find the best laptop that offers the most features for the best price (within your range). When I went out buying a laptop, I didn't set my eyes on a particular model, but I found one (Acer, as it turned out) that that offered the best RAM, processor, graphics card, OS and screen within our price range that suited our needs. And it was about £100 less than many other models sporting the same or worse spec. Erm, the only other thing to say is that Dell and Sony, whilst great and all, tend to be overpriced. Look at what else you can buy for the money they are asking for first. Wink

Ive been in touch with a lot of friends as I am in hunt for laptop too. A lot of the recommendations are with Asus. Better build quality and reasonable pricing.

But hey what's safe bets these days.

Hope that helps

I've always had a lot of luck with Acer and Toshiba. You can get an i5 for pretty cheap anymore (or i7 for gaming). Like other's said, avoid Dell and Alienware.

As for your current internet issue. Not sure if you've explored the option, but you can always get connectivity VIA USB. USB WiFi and Ethernet adapters are pretty cheap.

If you want to find great value, performance, and something that isn't a total piece of crap I recommend checking out Asus, and Toshiba products. Avoid BestBuy/Futureshop house brands like HP, compaq, samsung, etc. They had an average turnover rate of 2 years.

Also, unless you need financing, avoid Dell/Alienware.

These are the things I learned in my experience selling units, and working with the techs at my job.
