Those who were on the fence about preordering Starcraft II and waiting till the release now have an incentive to preorder the game, as GameStop has announced that everyone who preorders through their store will get access to the game's closed beta.
Starcraft II will be split into three parts, the first installment being Wings of Liberty, which focuses on the human Terran campaign in the game's single-player mode. The multiplayer mode will also feature the hive-like Zerg race and the technologically advanced Protoss race.
The beta program for Starcraft II started back in February and allows players to play a wide variety of multiplayer matches. The beta doesn't include any of the single-player campaign mode functionality, but it does allow users to play against computer-controlled opponents in the multiplayer modes.
Currently, Starcraft II has a vague Q2 2010 release, although the company has stated a more concrete release date window should be announced soon.
