A new study, conducted by communications firm Millward Brown Optimor, has concluded that the Nintendo Wii is the strongest brand in the gaming industry. The Wii grew its brand power by 21% year over year, overtaking last year's champion the Nintendo DS. Not too surprising considering Wii sales figures.
The fifth annual BrandZ ranking also revealed data about the other consoles. It noted the particular strength of the PS3, which has been gaining considerable ground due to increased sales - 3.8 million units in the last five weeks of 2009, a 76% increase from last year. The PS3's 25% overall brand increase is beginning to take the place of PS2, which the firm commented saw "a 58-percent drop in brand value" and "could be looking at its last year on the rankings."
The Xbox 360 remained steady with a 1% drop in brand value to $4.6 billion, which still makes it the third strongest brand in gaming, behind the Wii and DS.
