As it turns out, the massively popular Japanese DS game, Dragon Quest IX, will be getting a release in North America this Summer on July 11. Nintendo will be the publisher bringing the title stateside under the name, Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies.
One interesting feature of Dragon Quest IX is the passive download feature allowing players to connect with each other with the systems closed to fetch new pieces of a treasure map. This feature is a little obscure for a North American release, but reportedly the feature will still be integrated into the game under the title of "Tag Mode".
The big question is whether or not the series will make a dent in sales in North America, since the series has never done too well with American audiences. Nintendo is willing to bet the game will hold its own, and everyone can probably expect a pretty big advertising campaign since it's Nintendo publishing the Square Enix title.
