Back when the Wii launched, we had Wii Sports. Then Wii Play, followed by Wii Fit, Wii Music, and Wii Sports Resort. And now, Nintendo is set to releasing the next major Wii-branded game: Wii Party.
Wii Party was revealed during a presentation to investors this week as part of a show of confidence of Nintendo's upcoming video game line-up for 2010. As with the other Wii-branded titles, this game will feature the user's hand-made avatars, the Miis, as the stars of the game.
Screenshots of the game appear to show a world map, similar to that of the Mario Party titles, which Wii Party is a "spiritual" successor to in some ways. During the presentation, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata boasted that over 160 million Miis have been created by Wii owners in Japan, the U.S. and parts of Europe, making the game a "natural move for your Miis and your friends and family members' Miis to show up in Wii party games".
Wii Party is being billed as the company's first "marquee party game" since the 2007 release of Mario Party 8. Wii Party is set for release in Japan before the end of Nintendo's current financial year. No word has been given on a North American or European release of the game, with the company likely saving the reveal for E3 2010 next month.
