According to IGN's report of Netflix's latest conference call, it appears that the company is planning to roll out a disc-less version of Netflix on the PS3 later this Fall, after stating earlier this year that it would be coming "sometime in 2010".
During the call, CEO Reed Hastings said "before our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn't require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements." While no concrete details were revealed, this is a sign that the Xbox 360, which has the service installed in the Xbox Dashboard back in November 2008, might lose some of its edge depending on how the PS3 version is configured.
When asked about their thoughts on the recent announcement of Hulu Plus, the CEO said "once Hulu Plus has a few hundred thousand subscribers we'll be able to learn from consumers what they like about Hulu Plus...we'll work to incorporate what we find back into Netflix."
This news follows the recent announcement that the service will finally be coming to Canada this Fall.
