Index Holdings has announced that they are planning to absorb Atlus and Index's subsidiaries, in an effort to more effectively utilize group resources and implement a more efficient business system between the various divisions.
Atlus is most know for their Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series of Japanese RPGs. In 2006, Index Holdings became 100% of the parent company of Atlus through a stock purchase. The Index subgroup is responsible for mobile games.
If the merger is successful, following board meetings for the three involved companies, it would take place on October 1, 2010. While Atlus as a company would cease to exist, it's likely that the brand will live on, at least for a while, as a PR representative for Index Holdings had stated that Atlus's video game releases would be under the Atlus brand for the time being.
However, there has been no official long-term plans for the brand announced. As of yet no word has been given on how this would affect Atlus's North American branch, Atlus USA.
