Developer Naughty Dog has revealed that ICO, a Japanese PS2 classic that's garnered an impressive cult following, is a major source of inspiration and influence on their works, including the popular Uncharted series.
While Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was voted the greatest PlayStation game of all time by OPM readers, Naughty Dog's Evan Wells revealed that he'd sooner choose Fumito Ueda's cult classic ICO as the greatest PlayStation game ever, that and GTA III.
"They're pretty different games, but they've both influenced the industry tremendously," said Wells.
"[ICO's] the kind of game - that linear, narrative-driven experience - that we're focused on making right now.
"Everyone in the office has been influenced by it greatly; it's just a fantastic game."
Regarding the accolades of Uncharted 2, Wells said, "[Story-driven games] are very difficult and costly, but I hope people are now realising how story can really elevate the gaming experience."
