Electronic Arts has labelled monthly figures published by American company, NPD Group, as "misleading and potentially irrelevant" as they only account for a certain percentage of the industry.
"Using NPD data for video game sales is like measuring music sales and ignoring something called iTunes," the report quotes EA corporate communications executive Tiffany Steckler as saying.
"We see NPD's data as a misrepresentation of the entire industry," she added in response to the recent figures, which indicated that the games industry was faltering. However, NPD Group figures don't take into consideration anything digital, where many publishers are booming.
Despite NPD Group saying retail sales fell eight percent during February in the US, EA has increased its revenue forecast by 39 percent.
