Namco Bandai has declared, on the 1st of April no less, that they're bored of generic marketing and standard PR stunts. So what have they done? "Bought" an actual jet fighter to help promote Ace Combat: Assault Horizon.
As seen in the image above, the jet fighter, which is sporting a rather dubious shadow, is now "parked outside" Namco Bandai's headquarters in London. They claim it will be used to "to deliver preview code to press, take journalists on experiential jet-fighter experiences and to scare local publishing rivals, Capcom."
What's the cost of this fantastic excursion you ask? £285,000 - almost the entire marketing budget for the game. Lee Kirton, the marketing director at Namco Bandai said "I instructed the Product Manager, Lauren Bradley, to purchase a MiG-21BIS fighter and to get it branded up for Assault Horizon promotional activity."
To make things even more plausible, Namco Bandai declared that they actually bought the fighter plane from the Estovakian Air Force, the nation found inside the Ace Combat universe - what are the chances right?
Bear in mind though, that this is of course the 1st of April. Let the fun begin.
