In an attempt to compete with Blizzard's juggernaut, World of Warcraft, Runic has revealed that the upcoming Torchlight MMO will not have a subscription fee.
In a recent interview with Charge Shot, Runic Games' co-founder and co-designer for Diablo I and II, Max Schaefer, said "I don't think really anyone can do [subscriptions] anymore because pretty much everyone that does subscriptions has one for World of Warcraft."
Other than the new multiplayer feature added, Torchlight MMO will also include a much more in-depth story line. "...this time we've actually hired a writer, so the fiction will be better" said Shaefer. "It was really a mad rush in making Torchlight. So it's nice to put a little more love into some of the details." Former Wizards of the Coast and Mythic Entertainment writer, JD Wiker, will be behind the story.
The first Torchlight is available on XBLA for 1200 MS Points and $14.99 USD on the Steam Store.
