After posting a little teaser on their Facebook page last week, Sega has now officially announced Sonic Generations, a title that's being developed to celebrate Sonic's 20th Anniversary.
You'll be able to play as the original Sonic from 1991, while also playing as a the more recent looking Sonic, who's appeared in the 3D games. In an interesting twist, becuse of this, you'll be able to play stages in both 2D and 3D.
"By having the classic 1991 Sonic that many fans know and love team up with his modern day incarnation, we are bringing back the nostalgia of the early days of Sonic and combining it with the innovation and stunning HD technology of the modern gaming era. Sonic Generations will bring to life the last twenty years of Sonic's universe in a truly unique and imaginative way," said David Corless, the global brand director for Sonic.
To set this up, Sonic's world will encounter "time holes", which will make him travel through time. He must then team up with Classic Sonic, to defeat a strange new enemy.
