People who have been watching the PlayStation Network drama unfold might finally have some good news, as Sony has just put live firmware update v3.61.
To download it, you need to just do what you'd normally do, or you can grab it from Sony's website and install it manually. Unfortunately, the PlayStation Network isn't actually up yet, this is just preparatory, but once it's up, Sony strongly recommends that you change your password.
In a statement, Sony said: "We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online. The release of this update is a critical step as we work to make PlayStation Network significantly more secure. Thank you for your continued support and patience."
Full service is expected to return later today - hopefully that turns out to be true.
