Ubisoft have announced the launch of a new division that will deal specifically with turning Ubi's video game franchises into film and television adaptations.
Ubisoft already has at least one franchise adapted for the big screen. Last year's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time starred Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince and reeled in $335 million worldwide. In addition, Ubisoft also released Assassin's Creed: Lineage, a short film that leads up to the events of Assassin's Creed II.
In addition to Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft also has plenty of IPs under the Tom Clancy umbrella that may well have the potential to be adapted into film.
The new film division will be led by EuropaCorp's former CEO, Jean-Julien Barronet. Other members will include Didier Lupfer, who will be leading production and development, and Jean de Revieres, formally from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures France, will be in charge of marketing and sales.
