While Best Buy has already reduced the price of the 3DS to $199, Nintendo themselves have confirmed that their handheld will start retailing for a only $169.99 starting August 12. This comes after Nintendo reported their financial results for the first quarter of FY2012.
"For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America. "We are giving shoppers every incentive to pick up a Nintendo 3DS, from an amazing new price to a rapid-fire succession of great games."
Nintendo's financial report reveals that the 3DS only managed to sell 700,000 units in the three month period starting April 1 and ending June 30, 2011. 3DS software has sold 4.53 million units.
