UK retailer HMV has stated that the recent price cuts announced at GamesCom 2011 will offer up a "substantial sales boost" for Sony's PlayStation 3 platform.
The console will now command an RRP of £199.99 and the price cut has taken effect immediately. "It is great news and it will give a substantial sales boost to the whole sector," said Tim Ellis, the head of games at HMV. "Clearly the £200 price point not only makes them more competitive versus Xbox, but also psychologically for the consumer it makes PS3 much more attractive being under £200," he continued.
Resistance 3 should be the first Sony-made game to benefit from the price cut, as that releases on the 9th of September in the UK to start off Sony's next wave of first-party titles.
