An interesting development has arised in the "Scrolls" lawsuit involving Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson and Bethesda.

Bethesda originally filed a lawsuit over a trademark Notch had applied for. Claiming that Notch's current project "Scrolls", conflicted with their own series, The Elder Scrolls. Although believing that the lawsuit was absurd, Notch took it very seriously, until now it seems.

To settle the dispute, Notch and his team of three have challenged Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. If his team wins, he asks that Bethesda drop the lawsuit, if Bethesda wins, Notch will change the name of his project. It all sounds a bit childish, but Notch has assured the readers of his blog by stating, "I am serious, by the way."

The challenge seems a world away from any sort of legal process but as gamers, it seems very fitting for settling such a useless dispute. Bethesda may want to take Notch up on his offer as they seem to have no real case to argue anyway.
