Markus "Notch" Persson, creator of the popular sandbox game Minecraft, has said that Bethesda's claim to the trademark Scrolls is a bogus one and that he'll fight for as long as it takes.
Notch was hit with a lawsuit over the trademark Scrolls, which is the name of his new game. "It's a bogus claim," he told Wired. "If we're going to court, I will fight this for as long as it takes."
Bethesda themselves have released single word titles before that share words from older games, such as RAGE from id Software and the old arcade game Streets of Rage, as noted by Notch as a prime example.
Earlier in the week, Notch challenged Bethesda to a game of Quake III to settle the dispute, but this is what he had to say in retrospect: "if it came to a Quake III tournament, I have a feeling we just might have to change the name," realizing that Bethesda houses quite a number of professional Quake players.
