Sony have already pledged that they'll be supporting independent developers interested in developing for their new handheld, the PlayStation Vita. Sticking to their word, it looks like they've already started handing out dev kits. For free.

Indie dev Icon Games have said that Sony's presented them with four dev kits completely free of charge. Apparently, Sony was rather impressed with their title Great Little War Game, an iOS title planned to be brought over to PSVita, that they just gave them the kits.

"We showed them our game, they liked it loads and thought it a good fit for their machine, so they sent us four kits. Gratis. Just like that," said a rep.

"This has got to be good news for both devs and gamers. Unlike Nintendo, Sony now 'get it'."
