Reports have emerged suggesting New Line Cinema is in the midst of
developing a new film adaptation of Mortal Kombat. According to The Los Angeles Times web series director Kevin Tancharoen will be leading the project.
It was also suggested that the new adaptation will be hitting the big-screen sometime in 2013.
Tancharoen had previously been responsible for the Mortal Kombat:
Legacy Web series. According to the latest rumours he will be joined by his former Mortal Kombat: Rebirth writing partner Oren Uziel.
Additional rumours suggest the film's release will coincide with a new Mortal Kombat video game. Whether this would mean that the new game's launch would coincide with the future films theatrical or DVD release remains unclear.
New Line Cinema is yet to confirm the authenticity of The Los Angeles Times claims.
