Despite wide-spread consensus that Gears of War 3 marked the end of the series, in a recent interview Epic high-up Cliff Bleszinski has hinted that gamers may be treated to another helping of chainsaw-bayonetty goodness in the near future.
"[T]here's the long history of this war, tons of different stories to tell and thematically if you figure what makes a Gears game in the future, there's a lot of different directions we could go in. I'm not burnt out on it anywhere as some might assume or think." commented Bleszinski to Develop.
Later adding: "You look at the numbers that Call of Duty and Halo pulls and we're not at that point yet. I'm hoping Gears of War 3 brings us closer to that point. People forgot also that we're only the third game of the series... There's been a couple more Halo's and a few more Call of Duty's so who knows, maybe we'll be able to build upon that success."
The news immediately follows confirmation that the latest entry into the series had outsold all its competitors, shifting three-million copies in its opening week. The high opening sales makes Gears of War 3 the fastest selling Xbox 360 exclusive in the console's history.
Outside of a vague indication that he would be willing to work on a new game set in the Gears universe Bleszinsk gave no solid information regarding his exact plans for the potential title.
