Activision has issued a fresh statement claiming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has "shattered" pre-order records, including those set by previous Call of Duty titles.

Activision made the claim in its opening launch release earlier today: "This watershed launch extends the legacy of the franchise like no other previous release," commented Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc.

"Combining the narrative punch and gameplay innovations of the next chapter in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series with the unique services of Call of Duty Elite will bring Call of Duty gamers together in a cohesive, fan-focused environment like no other."

Unfortunately, verifying the authenticity of Activision's boast is somewhat difficult as the company failed to list any exact numbers in the statement. A more thorough breakdown of the game's opening performance is expected early next week, after Activision and independent market trackers have had time to add up the title's week one sales.
