Microsoft has confirmed that a new "significant" update to its Xbox LIVE service will be released December 6, 2011.
The free update will reportedly include changes to the service's dashboard. An increase in Kinect voice control features and the arrival of "the first group of new entertainment custom applications" were listed by Microsoft as key additions in the update. The apps will
reportedly expand the Xbox's current television, movie, internet video, sport and music offering.
"Console owners around the world will feel like they have a new Xbox. The new dashboard is built from the ground up to take full advantage of voice control. Users will be able to effortlessly navigate through their favourite entertainment on Xbox 360 using voice or gestures with
Kinect for Xbox 360," read Microsoft's statement.
As well as changes to the dashboard Microsoft also promised that the update would add the cloud storage features promised at this year's E3. "Also, brand new personal and social features including Cloud Storage for Game Saves and LIVE Profile, Beacons and Facebook Sharing
will launch with the 6th December update."
