Silicon Knights has confirmed yesterday's reports that it was set to lay-off a significant portion of its staff in the wake of its latest gaming disaster, X-Men Destiny.
According to a report from the Financial Post, Silicon Knights' CFO Mike Mays confirmed that the company has been forced to lay-off 45 employees, leaving just under 40 staff at the studio. While not great, the numbers listed by Mays fall far short of the original 75 per cent staff cut reported yesterday.
Mays clarified that the company had "just finished a project with [Activision]" and were onto a new venture. However, it was soon cancelled, leaving the studio with excess manpower.
"We had another project lined up that had been in the works for months, which had been green-lit and at the final second, at the high corporate level, the project got cancelled. We don't know why. Probably something to do with the publisher on their side, but that resulted in us having too many people so we had to do a lay-off."
Mays went on to state that Silicon Knights was in the process of negotiating a new project and intended to re-hire the staff as soon as it was able.
