Japanese developer Acquire, known for its work on action-adventure PlayStation 2 game Way of the Samurai, is working on a 2D platformer for the PlayStation Vita that will make full use of the handheld's front touch screen.

Sumioni, which means "Ink Demons," features an art style similar to that used for the Okami games. Gameplay requires players to swipe the touch screen as though it were a canvas, asking them to "paint" platforms for the Sumioni to jump on. A feature of the game is the "Magic Ink Meter," which, when full, allows players to summon a phoenix and paint flames with their fingers.

The game is slated to release in Japan on February 9, and while there is no North American release date as of now the company is confident that, like Okami, the game will see a warmly-received overseas release.
