Nintendo has announced that it's kicked off the holiday season with a bang, seeing record breaking game and console sales.
In a statement released earlier in the week Nintendo reported selling in-excess of 500,000 Wii consoles on Black Friday 2011 alone, making it the console's biggest Black Friday ever. Adding to the trend, Nintendo went on to confirm that since launching November 20, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has sold 535,000 copies, making it the fastest-selling Zelda game ever.
"We know that Black Friday and that entire week is a key selling week and it is important for products like ours to have a jump in momentum and we were fortunate to see that," commented Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. "For us, it really was driven by unique and powerful software and what gives us confidence is that we still have more software to launch in the balance of this holiday period."
Analysts have since predicted Nintendo's recent run of good fortune will continue, citing the arrival of Super Mario 3D Land as a key reason. The first 3D Mario game on the Nintendo 3DS, Super Mario 3D has already reportedly sold more than 500,000 units worldwide.
