Konami has announced that they will be shutting down the servers for Metal Gear Online, the online stealth game which came as part of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

The game will be turned off on the 12th of June, 2012, with the game's online shop being taken out of service on the 21st of March - just over a month's time. Shortly after this on the 24th of April, you will no longer be able to create and register characters for the game.

To give dedicated fans something to cheer about in the game's final months, after the 24th of April, Konami will be making all of the downloadable content for the game free.

This will come as bad news to fans of Metal Gear, as it was the only way they could play Metal Gear online in high definition. However, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD, which comes as part of the HD collection, will have online co-operative action.
